    • The 2019 initiation ceremony for new members took place on Monday, April 15 at 7:00 pm in the Weatherspoon Art Museum Auditorium. The guest speaker was Dr. Stan Meiburg, Director of Graduate Programs in Sustainability at Wake Forest University. The title of his address was "Wisdom and the Sustainable Life." The program was followed by a reception.
    • Spring General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, February 27 4:00 - 5:00 pm in MHRA.
    •  Endowment invested in sustainability focused index funds guided by environmental, social, and corporate governance factors.
    • Fall General Membership Meeting on November 29, at 4 pm in the Faculty Center.
    • Awarded the Certificate of Recognition at the 45th PBK Triennial Council August 2-4, 2018 for excellence in representing the ideals and commitments of Phi Beta Kappa during the 2015-2018 triennium as an outstanding Public University Chapter.

    • The Spring General Membership Meeting was Thursday, March 1. We had snacks and a wine tasting by PBK member Dr. John Nowlin.
    • Congratulations to Andrew G. McBride our 2018 Hege Award winner!
    • The 2018 initiation ceremony was April 11 with Dr. Ronald Crutcher, president of the University of Richmond, delivering the keynote address entitled "From the Nest Egg to the Frying Pan: Beethoven and the Schuppanzigh Quartet."
    • Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Dr. Price Fishback visited March 15-16, 2018. Dr. Fishback (the Thomas R. Brown Professor of Economics at the University of Arizona) gave a public lecture entitled "WAR! What is it good for?” on Thursday, March 15, at 5:30 pm in the School of Education Building.
    • The Fall 2017 General Membership Meeting was 5 pm on Tuesday, November 14 in MHRA.

    • Congratulations to Karen Boger, Alexander Nelson, Jordan Peitz, and Uyeong Yang our 2017 Hege Award winners!
    • The initiation ceremony was on Monday, April 17 in the Weatherspoon auditorium starting at 7pm. The keynote speaker was Dr. Tom Mould, Professor of Anthropology and Folklore at Elon University. The title of his talk was "Dangerous Stories".
    • The drop-In Luncheon for Students-Elect and all PBK Members was held in The Parlor, North Spencer on Thursday April 13, 2017, 11:30am-1pm.
    • Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Dr. Patricia Wright, Primatologist and Distinguished Service Professor of Anthropology at Stony Brook University, was on campus on April 10 and 11. She is the founder of Centre ValBio research station at Ranomafana National Park, where work is done to protect Madagascar’s unique and biologically diverse ecosystems.  She has made major contributions in the biology, ecology, conservation and behavior of living primates, especially the Malagasy lemurs. 
      In 2014 she was awarded the Indianapolis Prize, the world’s leading award for animal conservation.   A member of the American Philosophical Society, she has received a MacArthur fellowship, the Hauptman-Woodward Pioneers of Science Award, and the Distinguished Primatologist Award of the American Society of Primatologists.  Her books include Madagascar:  Forests of Our AncestorsHigh Moon over the Amazon:  My Quest to Understand the Monkeys of the Night; and For the Love of Lemurs:  My Life in the Wilds of Madagascar.  The 3D IMAX film, Island of Lemurs: Madagascar,  features her work.
    • The next General Membership meeting was 12-1pm on Tuesday, March 7 in the EUC White Oak Room. There was pizza!
    • Phi Beta Kappa co-sponsored a program called "The Liberal Arts Advantage: Launching from Campus to Career" on March 3. More information is available at https://hnac.uncg.edu/laa.

    • Initiation Ceremony: Wednesday, April 13, 7:00 in the Auditorium of the Weatherspoon Art Museum.  A reception will follow to honor new initiates.  Guest speaker will be Dr. Timothy D. Johnston, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and an honorary member of Phi Beta Kappa, UNCG’s Epsilon Chapter of North Carolina.  The topic of his speech will be “Why Books?”

Straub, who is Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry at Boston University, gave a public lecture "A Lively Tour of the Periodic Table" Thursday, February 16, 7:30 PM in Room 201 Sullivan Science Building, UNCG, and a departmental seminar "When Protein Folding Goes Wrong: Probing the Molecular Origins of Amyloid Disease" Friday, February 17, 1:00 PM Room 201 Sullivan Science Building, UNCG.

    • We hosted Dr. Lisa Pratt as a PBK visiting Scholar October 14-16, 2009. Dr. Pratt is Provost Professor of Geological Sciences at Indiana University, Director of a NASA Astrobiology Institute Team, and Chair of the NASA Science Advisory Group developing a 2018 mission concept for the next generation Mars Rover. The following events were included:

    • The Phi Beta Kappa Couper Scholars Lecture was Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in the Annie Merner Pfeiffer Chapel at Bennett College for Women. The speaker was Dr. Joyce Appleby, Professor Emerita of History at UCLA speaking on the topic “Coming to Terms with Thomas Jefferson.”
    • Annual initiation ceremony: April 20, 2006 in the Brown Building Theater. Dr. Peggy O’Brien, an educational programming innovator with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, spoke about "True Intelligence"
